Located in Tesano just off Abeka Junction, the serene 'New Morning Art Cafe' promises to be a focal point for the ongoing literary renaissance in Ghana following the launch of a new programme series dubbed Slam Friday. Slam Friday is a ninety-minute interaction with poets and musicians, hosted by renowned Ghanaian Jazz musician B B Brew, and MC'd by DK Osei Yaw, a well known spoken word performer in Accra.
Slam Friday features live music, poetry performances, and an open mike session. It comes on every Friday evening at the New Morning Art Cafe.
'Slam Friday' arrived on the scene on Friday, 23rd May, and is currently entering its third week. Already, 'Slam Friday' has featured some splendid musical acts, with Ras Bomba on vocals and guitar, supported by Paul on guitar and Moses Okutu on Conga. DK Osei Yaw, Nana Nyarkoa, and Martin Egblewogbe have also presented poetry.
The maiden edition of 'Slam Friday' was featured in the entertainment newspaper, 'Jive'.
The event is open to all, and gates open at 8.30 PM prompt. There is a gate fee of 3 cedis to be paid.
The New Morning Art Cafe is out to offer more than just entertainment. The people behind the Art Cafe are convinced that Ghanaian society needs to wake up and get doing, if the country is to make any headway on the global scene and redeem its broken image. The arts have always been an excellent medium to share ideas across different strata of society, to challenge people into thought and action, and to encourage them along the way. The New Morning Art Cafe has set out to play its role by showcasing the literary arts, and thereby contribute its quota to the National Effort.
