A Wrong Choice

Joel Ameah Kwaw

They all came looking innocent and humble
To their ambitions, they promised never to say no dice
Their parents being very responsible
Gave them everything and this advice
Learn hard, pray hard, and play hard
This you have to do to make us proud
Many friends your undoing, they can be very bad
This I pray you, never follow the crowd.

Just a little only today, and you are so bright
The world is running fast, hurry up and feel so high
He saw it with his innocent face it was pure white
He saw it packed in rolls he was made to try
With shivering hands inside it went
What about you will you or you will not?
No, never, not me - my ambitions, my future my parents
Never follow the crowd, this by my parents I was taught.

So months passed out and it was years
The latter, I heard, was an important personality
And never will he ever shed tears
This was the wish, and by obedience made a reality
But the other, oh how sad, a worthless creature
Nothing to write home about, a complete liability
So now you see, to do it and feel high is a foolish adventure
But to learn hard, pray hard, and play hard, is the best curiosity.
